Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, July 8) — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno's cleanup drive in the country's capital continues—this time among police officials.
The commander and eight other officers of the Manila Police District Station 11 have been relieved from their post following the recommendation of Moreno.
In a media briefing Monday, the mayor said the police officers failed to address the illegal vendors in Divisoria. Station 11 is in charge of the Recto Avenue to Binondo area.
"Saan kayo nakakita utusan lang ng chairman 'yung colonel? Saan kayo nakakita utusan lang ng chairman 'yung major?" he said.
[Translation: Where will you find a chairman just commanding a colonel? Where will you find a major just following the order of a chairman?]
Moreno presented the new officers who will take the helm at the police station:
Police Lt. Col. Noel Calderon Aliño - PS 11 Commander
Police Major Salvador Bagne Tangdol - San Nicolas PCP Commander
Police Captain Manolito Vedana Flores - Juan Luna PCP Commander
Aliño vowed they will not accept bribes.
"Makakaasa naman sila dito walang hanky panky. Walang kapalit ang pagkahuli sa kanila. Hindi kami papatol sa lahat ng mga bigay na pera," Aliño said.
[Translation: People can expect that there will be no hanky panky. We will not accept financial bribes.]
Revitalizing the country's capital by decongesting its streets is among the campaign promises of Moreno. Just days after taking his oath as mayor, he ordered the cleanup operations in Manila's busy streets, including Divisoria, Blumentritt, and Carriedo.
